Włodzimierz Jan Zakrzewski
Włodzimierz Jan Zakrzewski, born in 1946 in Łódź. Studied painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the atelier of Juliusz Studnicki and Krystyna Łada-Studnicka, and composition in the atelier of Roman Owidzki. Based in the United States from 1981 to 2000, he now lives and works in Warsaw.
His works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows among others: Marian Goodman Gallery, New York (1981); Vanderwoude Tananbaum Gallery (1985, 1987); Brooklyn Museum, New York (1989); TZ’Art & Co., New York (1999); Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (1996); Thomas Schulte Gallery, Berlin (1994, 1997); Wetering Galerie, Amsterdam (1983, 1985, 1987, 1990); Zacheta – National Gallery of Art, Warsaw (1976, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2014); Foksal Gallery, Warsaw (1993, 1997, 2003, 2016); Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art, Warsaw (2006); Ego Gallery, Poznań (2002, 2005, 2013, 2016); Studio Gallery, Warsaw (2019); Stefan Gierowski Foundation, Warsaw (2017); Contemporary Museum, Wrocław (2016); State Art Gallery, Sopot (2016). Zakrzewski received various residency invitations: 1978/79 and 1982- Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; 1994- De Pont Foundation, Amsterdam; 1995/96- Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin.
His works are part of the collections: National Museum in Warsaw and Poznań; Museum of Art in Łódź; Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam; Brooklyn Museum in New York, Museum Bochum, Germany; Zacheta – National Gallery of Art; Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art in Warsaw; Studio Gallery, Warsaw; Foksal Gallery collection and others.
