Marta Deskur – Sweet Aberration

The term „aberration” translates as deviation from the norm; it comes from the verb „to err”. It is a state that is best avoided or camouflaged by various procedures. Marta Deskur has applied herself to this experience of erring and bringing to the surface that which is habitually concealed under a layer of propriety and cultural and social norm.

The title Sweet aberration indicates the direction of the artist's exploration. In aberration, in erring, she finds her power to create new qualities and to re-define the norm. Aberration as a phenomenon is the theme of the presented works and the formal treatment used in their creation. The artist takes up the subject of religious, sexual or ethnic prejudice; she turns the viewer's attention to the human inclination toward phobia, xenophobia and hypocrisy.

„Out of existing elements such as artworks, people, symbols or simply photographs from my own archive, I build a new quality, losing my way and erring as I go” - explains the artist.

Her creative tool – photography - she treats according to the definition of apparatus by Vilém Flusser. The apparatus is a tool stimulating thought, which becomes an attractive object of philosophical exploration for it is able to create concepts. The exhibition takes place concurrently in Galeria Studio, Galeria Le Guern and in the public spaces between the galleries.
